With the presentation of the new range of Xperia X, Sony did not announce any new compact smartphone with display less than 5 “. Over the past few years, the Japanese manufacturer we have become accustomed to the presence of Xperia Z Compact range with a top range of nearly twin hardware compared to the time, repeated in a smaller form factor and easy to handle.
Despite the presentation of a Xperia X Compact has not yet taken place, the tables of GFXBench we suggest that Sony is working on at least two different Smartphones that may inherit the position currently vacant, to heirs of Xperia Z5 Compact. The new devices have respectively the name of Sony F3216 and F3311, two abbreviations that do not suggest top terminals (remember that Sony nomenclature uses the first letter to indicate the year and the first two units for the price range membership: es Xperia Z5 Compact E58XX) but particularly interesting hardware characteristics that might indicate a new Sony’s approach towards this band.
Both share a 4.6 display “, although Sony F3216 has a much better hardware than his brother. We find a Panel FullHD, 2 GB of RAM, SoC MediaTek octa core 1.9 GHz P10 Helio with GPU Mali-T860, 16 GB of internal memory and a very peculiar photographic sector, characterised by a root drive by 20 Megapixels and a secondary from 15 (possibly 16) Megapixels, while the operating system is Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Sony F3311, despite the nomenclature, seems to be a weakened version of the model just examined, since it gives us a Panel HD 720 p, again by 4.6 “, 1.5 GB of RAM memory, SoCMediaTek MT6735 1.3 GHz quad core with Mali-T720, 16 GB of internal memory, main camera from 13 MegaPixel and 5 MegaPixelfront, all run by Android Marshmallow.
For the moment it is unclear what will be the actual positioning of these smartphones Sony products in the Park. Until last year there would have been no doubt in classifying them, Sony F3216 including as mid-range devices, however the new road taken with Xperia X, which has opted for a particular approach by sacrificing certain specifications (than competitors) to offer smartphones, according to Sony, more balanced and concrete, could completely change the cards on the table.
Under this perspective, Sony F3216 might be seen as a possible successor to Xperia Z5 Compact, however we are not willing to put your hand on fire on this hypothesis. We just have to wait for more details to find out what will be the fate of the two devices and if we will see the release of a new Compact with a hardware similar to Xperia X Performance.
