What does Agricultural Mean?

Agricultural is an adjective that qualifies the one or that that has a link with livestock and agriculture. Knowing what the notion of agriculture refers to, therefore, requires us first to understand the concepts of livestock and agriculture.

The idea of livestock refers to the cattle of an area or a nation and to the activities that are carried out to raise and commercialize these animals. Agriculture, for its part, is the set of techniques and actions that make it possible to till and cultivate the land to obtain raw materials.

From these definitions, it is easy to understand what is agricultural. An agricultural company, for example, can dedicate itself to the cultivation and commercialization of corn or to the raising and sale of cattle.

It is known as the agricultural sector to the sector of the economy consists of farming and livestock activities. These productions take place in the countryside, unlike those that take place in cities.

The economic sectors tend to interrelate. A company in the agricultural sector can cultivate cotton and sell its production to a company in the textile industry that, with this cotton and other raw materials, manufactures T-shirts. Once the T-shirts are made, they are sold in retail stores, such as supermarkets or clothing stores.

It is possible to differentiate three subsectors in which agricultural activities are divided:

* agricultural: characterized by the cultivation of vegetables, fruit trees, grains, oilseeds and nuts, among other products, such as flowers, in nurseries and greenhouses. Similarly, in this subsector activities are carried out to promote the growth and development of agriculture;

* livestock: this adjective refers to everything related to livestock. Therefore, in this subsector, the exploitation of pigs, cattle, goats and sheep, among other livestock, such as poultry. As in the previous case, it also seeks to support all producers in the subsector itself;

* beekeeper: is dedicated to collecting honey and royal jelly, as well as the use of wax found in hives.

Because of its importance to other economic processes, their potential contribution to the gross national product and its ability to provide employment to millions of people, the agricultural development is often one of the main objectives of the policy of a country.

Regarding employment opportunities, it is correct to say that the agricultural sector is among those that offers the most jobs in proportion to the rest. In large cities the focus of the trends is not agriculture, but there is still no one that can survive without it: although dressed in the logos of chains of international importance, the food products we consume in urbanizations come from the countryside, from the Workforce of millions of people with different capacities and training.

On the other hand, we must not forget that in many countries the agricultural sector contributes with a large percentage of export activities, sometimes exceeding 60 percent. And this brings more benefits than are obvious: in addition to the sale of national products abroad, something very necessary for the support of the economy and the relevance at the international level, agricultural exports also brings the entry of foreign currency to the country.

At a social and cultural level, agricultural activities also improve the lives of many people, since it promotes the development of new means of communication for the transfer of workers between the countryside and the city, as well as the modernization of existing means of transport.
